Can You Wash Your Dog With Natural Soap? We Tried It At the Creek

On pleasant spring and summer days we all start itching to hop on our bikes and ride down the road to splash in the creek.

Since we live on a farm in Southern Tennessee, our black dog Freddy often begins to look kind of brown from all the dirt. Unfortunately, he hates baths! As much as he hates and dreads baths, one of his favorite things is to jog down to the creek with us and go for a nice swim as we chunk sticks into the water for him to fetch.

This spring we decided to take a bar of our Lemon Geranium Goat Milk Soap with us to the creek to make Freddy's bath seem fun. Lemongrass and geranium essential oils are naturally known for repelling ticks, making this a great natural alternative to chemical tick shampoos. We thought it would be worth a try. Did it work? We don't know but Freddy hasn't had many ticks this season.

We grabbed the soap, hopped on our bikes (after airing up a few tires), and started off. It was a lovely day, everything was peaceful and quiet, the fields were yellow with flowers, and the warm spring breeze felt wonderful as we rode along. When we reached the creek, we hopped off our bikes and waded into the very cold water. Of course, Freddy didn't mind the cold water and as we looked for crawdads, skipped stones, worked on a tiny dam, and threw sticks, he was a part of it all, barking, running, swimming, sniffing, shaking water all over us, and wagging his tail like the happiest dog in the world.

After a while, out came the bar of Lemon Geranium Goat Milk Soap and we started rubbing and scrubbing.

Since our goat milk soap contains only natural ingredients, no synthetic fragrance, no harsh chemicals, we didn't have to worry about polluting the creek and Freddy much preferred being bathed in creek water than with the hose!

After scrubbing and rinsing him a few times and getting a little wet from when he shook off the water, we played a while longer and then rode home. Freddy was clean and tired and we were all hungry. It had been a fun adventure.

If you're looking for a natural soap gentle enough for your dog and the great outdoors, our Lemon Geranium Goat Milk Soap might be just the thing. And if lemongrass and geranium really do keep the ticks away, that's just a bonus.
